How the car donation process works
You donate your vehicle through Cruise Forward
Start by telling Cruise Forward about the car, truck, van, SUV, motorcycle, RV, or other vehicle you want to donate in the Mobile Metro. You do not need to fix it first, and the vehicle does not have to be perfect. Donors from neighborhoods like Oakleigh, West Mobile, Theodore, Chickasaw, Semmes, and Fairhope can begin the process online or by phone. The goal is to make giving simple while ensuring your donation is directed to Heritage for the Blind, EIN 58-2164446, a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Free pickup is scheduled around your location
After your donation is submitted, free towing is arranged at a convenient time. Pickup is available across the Mobile Metro, including Mobile, Prichard, Saraland, Bay Minette, Daphne, Spanish Fort, and surrounding communities. A towing provider will contact you to confirm details and collect the vehicle. You avoid the hassle of selling privately, negotiating with buyers, or paying for a tow. Cruise Forward keeps the logistics straightforward so your unwanted vehicle can be turned into support for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Your vehicle is sold to create charitable proceeds
Once the vehicle is picked up, it is processed and sold. The gross sale price determines important tax documentation when the vehicle sells for more than $500. Most importantly for mission-motivated donors, 100-percent of vehicle proceeds go to Heritage for the Blind. That means the proceeds from your donated car are directed to the nonprofit beneficiary rather than being split with another charity. Your old car becomes a practical way to fund services designed for blind and visually impaired Americans.
Proceeds fund Heritage for the Blind services
Heritage for the Blind uses vehicle donation proceeds to support services for people who are blind or visually impaired. This includes helping connect individuals with government benefit programs that may improve stability and access to care, such as SSI, SSDI, LIHEAP, Section 8, Medicare Extra Help, and Medicaid. These programs can be difficult to understand alone. By funding outreach and assistance, your Mobile Metro vehicle donation helps Heritage for the Blind guide people toward resources that may fit their needs.
You receive tax documentation after the sale
Because Heritage for the Blind is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 58-2164446, vehicle donations may be tax deductible for donors who itemize deductions. For vehicles that sell for more than $500, the deduction is generally based on the gross vehicle sale price and reported using IRS Form 1098-C. You should keep your receipt and consult a tax professional about your personal filing situation. Cruise Forward helps donors understand the basics while keeping the donation process easy and transparent.
